So I went to the T-Mobile store to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
UPS is now claiming successful delivery, and T-Mobile is saying nothing came to the store. Not sure what do.
On my way back, I decided to take the interstate and avoid the chaos that is Route 66.
So I'm coming down this off-ramp, approaching the turn at the bottom. Pop my car into neutral. Suddenly the gauges go dark, the doors lock, and the steering wheel locks. Ass. Puckered.
Luckily I had slowed enough that I was able to bring myself to a stop with the parking brake. Restarted the car, and it drove the rest of the way home without issue.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! you'll understand why I don't want to drive it anymore.

Anybody have any suggestions? I've checked battery connections, ground, fuses, harness plugs... Really don't want to tow the car to the nearest Mazda dealer. It's over 100 miles away, and I'm out of AAA tows.
Lead image is my Mazda enjoying some mid-July snow.

Wait, wait, I'm from Texas/New Mexico, were you up in the mountains or something? How do you get mid-July snow?

It's actually a really snowy place. Snow in July is rare (it was on the top of the mountain, not in town), but not impossible. First snow storm is usually in October, and the last storm either in April or May.

High desert then, I guess? I don't know a whole lot about Arizona, but I always assumed it was a lot like New Mexico.

It is a lot like New Mexico. Ever been around Santa Fe?
It's technically high desert, if you're a geologist.
Technically.

Yeah. I'm from Las Cruces/Austin, but I have family in ABQ (my mother, grandmother, aunts). I've been to Sante Fe many times. A few school trips in elementary school, and again about three years ago as a family outing (I was visiting from Japan).

Nice. Yeah, high desert mountains are a great place to live. Low humidity, beautiful summertime temps, and plenty of snow for snowboarding.

I always used to go tubing in Rio Doso , but honestly, I'm really thin and small, yet also tall, so I have no insulation at all and get cold very easily. Very, very easily. Like 50F and I need a parka. The upside is that 100F and 70% humidity just does nothing. Absolutely nothing. I could wear some sort of victorian outfit and be perfectly comfortable.

I have friends there and have been on the campus several times. My grandmother used to live on not too far away (she now lives with my aunt).

have you checked the battery terminals? Same thing happened to my mom and it turned out there was a lot of buildup there and it finally just cut out. She couldn't get it started again though...

Yeah, checked battery terminals, ground cable, tested the battery. All cables to and from the battery look just fine. Fuse box / fuses look good.

I have a buddy who's a tech at a dealer at (I think) Avondale Mazda outside of Phoenix. If you're nearby.

ROAD TRIP

In a car that doesn't shift well, and will randomly turn off? Sounds great!
BTW, the main freeway to Phoenix drops about 6,000 feet, and is incredibly twisty for a major interstate. There's a lot of several-hundred foot cliffs.

The best road trips are the ones with the most at stake. Think Roadkill. If you might die, it makes it all that more fun.
ANYONE can drive a few hundred miles in a reliable new car an arrive safely with no story to tell.

Dude. I bought a '95 Neon for $800, threw some new tires on it, and drove to Tennessee from WI in the middle of summer. Had a perfectly good newer car at home.
YOLO
